Resistance: Fall of Man

Smooth. Very smooth.

RFOM have some of the smoothest and easiest to master control sets on the PS3 to date.

Getting those head shots have never been easier.

The game flows like warm butter over hot toast.

Gameplay is fast and fun for both players.
In the few vechicle segments, one of the players drives, while the other player gets to spray some hot lead around.

Split screen is proper Vertical split and Player 2 is not just another Player 1 clone.
You actually look like a NPC marine.
You however do not feature as a main character in the story.

Playing RFOM Split screen is pure coop bliss.

Highly recommended to PS3 owners looking for a great coop shooter.

9/10 for split screen coop awesomeness.

Halo

Halo...

The big one for Xbox owners everywhere.

How does Halo 1, 2 & 3 fare as a split screen coop game?

Very very Well!

Halo CE puts you in the big green boots of the Master Chief. Player 2 simply becomes a 2nd, silent, (invisible to cut scenes) Master Chief.

Halo CE does not feature wide screen support, so both players share a 4:3 screen, split horizontally.

The game is loads of fun with a friend.

Halo 2 added wide screen support and with that a nice vertical split down the middle, giving each player half of 16:9 screen to play on. Player 2 is still a silent (but deadly) clone of the MC and the Arbiter.

Halo 3 went one step further and made player 2 the Arbiter, now fighting the good fight with the MC.

It then also added 2 more playable characters for Players 3 and 4!

Good stuff indeed.

Only gripe with Halo 3 Same screen Coop is,  for some reason, you do not get to use the entire screen. It has black bars on the sides. This is kinda off putting for me, but the missus did not seem to mind it at all.

Halo (as a Trilogy of Coop goodness) get a solid 9/10

Call of Duty: World at War

Split screen, same screen and now: lame screen.

CODW@W does the unthinkable, it makes a Coop COD game unplayable on the same screen, and thus no fun at all!

Instead of splitting the screen vertically or horizontally, it renders two small 16x9 windows...

It simply does not work for same screen coop. (Well, it might, on a gigantic projector).

The 'view' area per player is simply not big enough to for two people to engage the evil forces of Germany or Japan in.

There might have been good reasons for the devs to go this route, and on paper it makes sense, but where the disk hits the tray, it simply does not pan out.

After much excitement and hype, the same screen coop component of this WW2 shooter, fails to impress.

Same screen Coop score: 3/10

Update: According to some sources, the screen splits vertically on SD tv's...

TimeSplitters 3

This game is coop heaven.

Butter smooth controls, awesome Multi player BOTS, cool coop  story champaign and MONKEYS!

This one has it all. (did I mention the Monkeys yet?)

We spent hours on the couch with this one, every minute a blast!

4 player splitscreen, with bots = a gamers nirvana.

Highly recommended and a solid 9.5/10 score for COOP awesomeness.

Go get it today!

Tom Clancy's Ghost recon

Not for Noobs!

The Ghost recon series is amongst the best to be experienced with a coop partner... if you both have mad skills that is.

These games are not forgiving and should not be attempted by people new to military shooters or split screen amateurs.

The games are as rewarding as they are hard to master.

Both players can play as specific members (with specific Skills) in the 'original' series of games, and Advanced Warfighter 1 & 2 allows for more customized approaches to the given scenarios.

The screen is split right down the middle and each player controls his (or her) character from there.

Tactics and communication is vital and one mistake can get both off you killed in seconds.

The coop scenarios usually follow or run parallel with the main plot line, so the story elements are usually in there to make you feel part of the over all experience.

I rate them all as solid 8's for Coop Bliss.
(Hardcore gaming partner advised!)

Baldur's Gate

Epic adventure. Strange Magics. LOOT!

When men were men and dwarves were dwarves! And Dragons were... you get the point.

As a coop game (same screen) Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 is loads of fun to play with the Missus.

Just make sure you decide who gets what loot! Else more than spells might fly.

Many a time was I left alone to fend of terrible Ogres and Giants, whilst the missus was off looting chests!

(2nd game has a more friendly loot share system...)

The Camera is set high above the valiant adventurers and the controls is easy to master.

Both players had a little bit of camera control, but since the view point is rather high, camera angles are never a real problem.

My COOP score for Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 is: 8/10

Games might be a bit dated for 2009, but for its time and the fun to be had, it is brilliant.
